3 Words You Need To Hear

I’m not _______ enough.

You’ve filled in that blank once or twice (or a million times) haven’t you? Yeah, me too.

Maybe it was something that someone said years ago that has echoed in the chamber of your mind ever since.

That coach that said you weren’t good enough.

That teacher that said you weren’t smart enough.

Maybe there’s a voice inside your head saying that you’re not strong enough, or attractive enough, or dedicated enough.

Maybe we’ve heard these voices so many times that we begin to believe it. Every lousy, no-good word of it.

Yesterday, I began to think and worry and fixate on things that ultimately were out my control. I started to think that maybe God was a little disappointed in me in some way.

Then I got this three-word reminder from a blog post by Paul Angone: You are enough.

It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, what you’re doing, or what you’re going to do. You are enough.

It doesn’t matter what others think about you or have said about you. You are enough.

It doesn’t matter what grades you got on your last exam, what your job title is, what your relationship status is or where you live. You are enough.

God doesn’t need me to write two blogs a week or perform miracles or check off every item on a list in order to love me. I knew this, but how easy it is to lose sight of it in the fog of emotion.

He loves me just as I am. He loves me at my best. He loves me at my worst. He loves me when I’m tired and angry and lonely. He loves me. And he loves you, too. He sent his only son to die for our mistakes to prove it, without any of us doing a single thing to earn it or deserve it.

God doesn’t demand a quarterly performance evaluation report from you. He doesn't want you to jump through hoops. He doesn't want you to prove your worth.

He wants you. Just you.

Because you are enough.
